What is H.B. 920?
H.B. 920 was passed in 1976 as a tax reduction factor
applied to real property to produce the same revenue as the year before. It has
had a devastating effect on school funding.
Simply stated, once a school levy is passed in the district, the amount
of money which the school district can receive from that levy can NEVER
increase. Therefore, when reassessments
and updates show that inflation has increased the value of your property, a tax
credit is applied to make certain that the school district receives no more
income from the voted mills then it did the year it passed. So that you can relate this to our District,
the last operating levy for Bethel-Tate was passed in 1989.
