Bethel-Tate Web Safety Information
Bethel-Tate Local Schools is committed to help you keep your students safe on the Internet. You may have heard your child talk about blocked sites from school computers such as MySpace and FaceBook. We understand the frustration your child might feel when they can not access their personal blogs or favorite sites from our network, however, many of these "social networking" sites have objectionable material and it is in our Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) policy to try and protect our students from potentially harmful material that can be found on such sites.
We subscribe to very effective web-filters and although these filtering systems are very good, they are not perfect. By nature the Internet is a extrememly fluid system. Sites come on-line quickly and it is impossible to catch them all. So we have provided some links to help you, as parents, to discuss and help prevent your child from being a victim of cybercrimes and exploitation.
Although the Internet is an immensely useful tool for research, learning and recreation, there are many out there that prey on unsuspecting children and teens. We hope this information will help you with discussing the pitfalls and safety concerns of the Internet with your child.
