Neil Armstrong (1930- )
Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio. He was an astronaut on Apollo 11 and was the first person to to set foot on the moon. This occurred on July 20, 1969
Jesse Owens ( 1913 - 1980)
Owens was a world famous track and field athlete who competed in the Olympics.


Johnny Appleseed (1774 - 1845)
Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman) was a pioneer who traveled through Ohio and the midwest and is best known for the apple trees and stories he left behind.
Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896 )
Stowe is best remembered for her book Uncle Tom's Cabin. She spent 18 years of her life in Cincinnati.
George Custer
Custer was born in New Rumley, Ohio. He played a major role in the Civil War and is remembered for his death in the Battle of Little Big Horn.

Tecumseh (1765?-1813)

Tecumseh was born in the Scioto River Valley. His name means "shooting star" or "meteor". He was the leader of the eastern American Indian tribes.

Orville Wright was born in Dayton, Ohio. Along with his brother, he invented and built the first successful airplane.
John Herschel Glenn Jr. (1921- )
Glenn was born in Cambridge, Ohio. He was the first American to orbit the earth. We watched him go up again in 1998 as the oldest man in space.

Lin was born in Athens, Ohio. She was the designer for the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Washington, D.C.
